I’m working on my plans for ballpark visits this year, and here’s what I’ve come up with so far.
Each season, I try to see the closest team that I haven’t seen. This year, because the Kinston Indians became the Carolina Mudcats, they are now the closest team. I did see a Carolina Mudcats game in 1994 as a member of the AA Southern League, but since that team is now the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, I need to see the High A Carolina League team. My plan is to combine it with a visit to see the Pulaski Mariners since I have a smaller window each season to see Appalachian League games, and this is the closest team to the Mudcats that I haven’t seen. It works out well to see a game in Pulaski on Tuesday, June 26 and then a 12:00 start in Carolina the next day.
I’m also planning another quick trip next week. I saw that the schedule lined up in my favor to see the Lexington Legends on Tuesday, April 17 and then make an 11:00 start for the West Virginia Power the following day. Coincidentally, the following week contains the same schedule for these two teams.
I’m also hoping to make a trip to see the Portland Sea Dogs sometime this season as a long weekend, but I’m not sure when that will be. And I never know what business trips may arise. As always, this is all predicated on the weather holding, but hopefully things work out.
I’ll post any other plans, including local games, right before I go, so if you’d like to meet up, let me know.
