Altoona Curve vs. Bowie Baysox – May 27, 2012

I went to see the Bowie Baysox for the first time since 2002.  It’s not a bad stadium, but there’s nothing much that sets it apart from others either.  It was a very warm day, so I was able to hide in the small bit of shade in the top row of the grandstand for the game.  I often make comments about the scorecards in the programs here, and I was amazed that the program says to go to the Fan Assistance Center to get a full scorecard.  I guess rather than pretend that people care about it, they will just point out where the one person per game (me) can go to get it.  They did provide all of the information available to the media, so I did appreciate that.

I got a nice treat in being able to see three Orioles players on rehab assignments, 2B Brian Roberts (pictured above), LF Endy Chavez and 3B Mark Reynolds.  Roberts had a double and scored a run, and Reynolds showed that he was back to his normal form by striking out twice (sorry, I couldn’t resist, he would have been back to normal if he added a home run to that).

I also got to see two guys who were top 5 overall picks.  Altoona C Tony Sanchez was the 4th overall pick in 2009 and Bowie SS Manny Machado was the 3rd overall pick in 2010.  Sanchez went 2-3 with an RBI double and Machado was 0-4.

In the game itself, there was lots of scoring early making me think it would be a high scoring affair as Bowie was up 4-1 after two innings.  But Altoona only added one more run in the 5th as the Baysox prevailed, 4-2.
